Junk Mail Fish Elementary Art Unit

This sample 3rd-5th grade unit gives a sense of how I structure lessons, promote critical thinking and engagement in cross disciplinary themes, and promote self expression and good craftsmanship in the work of my students. The concept of Junk Mail Fish was developed by one of my education mentors, Constance Del Nero who created many wonderful art units for the Academy Art Museum as their education director.

Junk Mail Fish

The average American gets 41 pounds of junk mail a year. Cutting down trees to almost immediately throw it away. Artists can play a critical role in bringing awareness and recording the issues of our time. Below is a sample of the teaching materials used to guide deep conversations and have their own art making experience with this subject matter.
